About AspectFit

What it is

AspectFit shows how big a video, photo or app really looks on a phone, foldable or tablet. A diagonal hides the shape of a screen, and the shape decides how much of it a format can use, so AspectFit draws every screen to the same physical scale and shows only the area the content fills.

How sizes are computed

From the diagonal and the pixel resolution, AspectFit gets each screen’s physical width and height, assuming square pixels. For a format such as 16:9 it then finds the largest rectangle of that shape that fits on the screen, the way a video player letterboxes it, tries both orientations and keeps the larger one.

Picture sizes are given as the diagonal of that rectangle, so they compare directly with screen sizes. Ratios such as “1.25× larger” compare areas, which is what your eyes notice.

Where the specs come from

Screen sizes and resolutions come from manufacturers’ published specifications. Devices that are not out yet use the most credible leaks and are marked with an asterisk until launch. Each page shows when its data was last updated.

Limits

Rounded corners, camera cut-outs, hinges and on-screen controls are ignored, and some apps add bars of their own, so real playback can be slightly smaller than shown. Foldables are measured by the panel the manufacturer lists.
